Who we are

PlatformWatch was established in 2026 as a volunteer initiative by digital safety researchers, legal compliance professionals, and community advocates concerned about the proliferation of illegal content on major messaging platforms.

We operate as an independent non-profit, free from commercial or governmental influence. All members of our team contribute their expertise on a volunteer basis. We do not accept payment from platforms, government agencies, or any party with an interest in the outcomes of our work.

Our mission is simple: to ensure that the legal frameworks governing online speech — particularly those protecting minors and public safety — are not undermined by deliberate exploitation of platform features.

Why we exist

The scale of modern messaging platforms has created an environment where illegal content can reach hundreds of thousands — sometimes millions — of users before traditional moderation responds. Coordinated networks of accounts, bots, and channels routinely exploit platform features to evade detection while engaging in serious criminal activity.

Existing reporting mechanisms, while well-intentioned, are often insufficient against organized abuse. Reports are sometimes blocked by malicious tactics designed to overwhelm or game automated systems. PlatformWatch addresses this gap by providing structured, evidence-based notices that follow established legal frameworks.

Our legal basis

Our work is grounded in the EU Digital Services Act (Regulation 2022/2065), specifically:

In addition to the DSA, we apply relevant national laws — including the Israeli Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Penal Law, and the Counter-Terrorism Law — when assessing the legal basis for notices.

What we do not do

To preserve our credibility and the integrity of our work, PlatformWatch maintains clear boundaries:

Our team

PlatformWatch operates entirely through volunteer contributors. Members are organized into functional working groups:

Out of consideration for the personal safety of our volunteers — particularly those working on cases involving organized crime — individual members are not identified publicly. All correspondence is conducted through official channels.

Funding and independence

PlatformWatch operates without external funding. All work is contributed on a volunteer basis. We do not accept donations, grants, sponsorships, or any form of financial support from platforms, government agencies, or commercial entities. This structure ensures the complete independence of our work.
